Kids Abilities can provide OT services for children who have funding allocated under the support category, Improved Daily Living. You will need to contact the the NDIA to determine if your child is eligible for an NDIS plan.

Check with your individual fund to see if you have ‘Extras’ cover for Occupational Therapy. The fund may reimburse a certain amount of your OT fee. If you are entitled to a rebate, please discuss this with the Family Liaison Team prior to the session as some funds require the therapist to register with them specifically.

You can ask your GP whether your child would be eligible for an CDMP (also called an Enhanced Primary Care Plan or EPC). It is a document which outlines the suggested allied health care requirements for your child beyond standard GP care. You can use the CDMP plan for 5 individual OT sessions and will be rebated a certain amount per visit by Medicare. This amount will increase if you are over the safety net.

Your child’s Paediatrician or GP may consider your child to be eligible for Occupational Therapy services under a Mental Health Plan. With a Mental Health Plan you would be able to claim for up to 10 OT sessions a year by a registered OT. You will be reimbursed a certain amount for each session which will increase if you are over the safety net.

This is known as the Helping Children With Autism (HCWA) package. Funding for children under the age of 6 who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Pervasive Development Disorder (PDD) or Aspergers Syndrome is provided by FaHCSIA.This Early Intervention funding assistance can then be used for OT sessions or to purchase specific pieces of equipment or resources that your Occupational Therapist has suggested are relevant to the child’s therapy goals. Children with this funding will now be rolled over to the NDIS and no new packages are being provided.

This is known as the Better Start package. Funding for children under the age of 6 who have been diagnosed with Down Syndrome, Fragile X Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and some other illnesses is also provided by FaHCSIA.This assistance can then be used for OT sessions or to purchase specific pieces of equipment that your Occupational Therapist has suggested will be of benefit to your child. Children with this funding will now be rolled over to the NDIS and no new packages are being provided.
