Financial Support for Occupation Therapy Services

It can be confusing trying to work out what financial support you can access for Occupational Therapy services. There are several different ways to access financial support to cover some or all of your Occupational Therapy sessions and your local GP or Paediatrician may be able to assist and support you in sourcing several of these.

Check with your individual fund to see if you have ‘Extras’ cover for Occupational Therapy. The fund may reimburse a certain amount of your OT fee. If you are entitled to a rebate, please discuss this with the Family Liaison Team prior to the session as some funds require the therapist to register with them specifically.
You can ask your GP whether your child would be eligible for an CDMP (also called an Enhanced Primary Care Plan or EPC). It is a document which outlines the suggested allied health care requirements for your child beyond standard GP care. You can use the CDMP plan for 5 individual OT sessions and will be rebated a certain amount per visit by Medicare. This amount will increase if you are over the safety net.
Your child’s Paediatrician or GP may consider your child to be eligible for Occupational Therapy services under a Mental Health Plan. With a Mental Health Plan you would be able to claim for up to 10 OT sessions a year by a registered OT. You will be reimbursed a certain amount for each session which will increase if you are over the safety net.
